Client: Roads and Highways Department, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Government of Bangladesh
Location: Bangladesh
Status: Ongoing

Project Description

LEA India has been retained to provide construction supervision consultancy for the Kewatkhali Bridge project in Mymensingh. The city, divided by the old Brahmaputra River, will benefit from the new bridge funded by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), which aims to alleviate traffic congestion by redirecting traffic from the city centre.

The proposed three-span continuous balanced steel arch bridge, with spans of 70m, 180m, and 70m, integrates the structural efficiency of traditional arch bridges with the benefits of a continuous support system. The three-span balanced arch bridge was also chosen to achieve the 180m main span while offering enhanced aesthetics, uniqueness, and iconic value. The bridge will enhance connectivity for passengers and freight from Sherpur, Phulpur, Haluaghat, Netrokona, Kishoreganj, and Mymensingh to Dhaka via the N3 Highway.

The scope of work for this project includes the construction of the bridge, approach bridge, road overpass, railway overpass, ramp, 4-lane road with SMVR lane, rest area, traffic engineering, traffic management and tolling facilities.

The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges (MoRTB) is implementing this project.
