Project Description
LEA India’s Railways Team is working on redeveloping the Kollam Railway Station, which is the second largest Railway station in Kerala in terms of area and number of tracks. This is also the oldest station in the state, and thus, it will receive complete overhaul replete with modern construction and amenities at a cost of INR 361.18 Crore (or C$60 million).
Enhanced passenger amenities, services, and integration with other modes of transport to facilitate transformation of Kollam Station into a major transportation and commercial hub is the central objective of the proposed development. The station upgradation has been planned with a view to have large, well-designed passenger concourses with adequate and high-quality waiting space easily accessible to platforms, excellent passenger information and communication systems, conference halls, business centers, retail shops, restaurants, entertainment and cultural facilities.
The redeveloped Railway Station will have environment that’s friendly for people with disabilities. An example of such an inclusive infrastructure is inclusion of user-friendly international signage to ensure seamless flow of passengers in all-weather conditions with dedicated pick-up and drop-off spaces at the station.
